Physical pain and discomfort

The weight of the breast tissue can cause back, shoulders and neck pain, as well as postural problems.

Body Proportions

This procedure aims to bring the breasts into a more moderate proportion with the rest of the body.

Health Concerns

Excess weight on the chest can lead to skin irritation problems, as well as discomfort and difficulty exercising.

Our Reduction Mammaplasty (breast reduction) Procedure

As a reconstructive surgery, reduction mammaplasty (breast reduction) will involve the patient going under a general aesthetic. In preparation for the surgery, Dr Terrence Scamp will use a pen to mark the breasts to show where the incisions on the skin will be. The marking will likely be a vertical line from the areola down the breast and horizontally underneath the breast, as well as a circle around the areola.

In order to remove the excess fat and tissue from the breasts and to reduce their size and weight, small incisions are made that follow the markings.

This will also allow for the repositioning of the areola during the procedure. The breast tissue that is kept will be reshaped into the desired size and shape and any excess skin will be removed. The incision sites will be stitched up for the breasts to heal.

Reduction mammaplasty (breast reduction) can take anywhere from ninety minutes to three hours to complete, depending on the desired size and shape of the breast, as well as whether the patient is having bilateral surgery to both of the breasts.
